UUID generator

Builds v4, v1, v5, and NIL in this browser. The values stay on the device.

Why this exists

Test data should not require opening a console just to mint an id.

The same name always gives the same v5. DNS and www.example.com give 2ed6657d-e927-568b-95e1-2665a8aea6a2.

  1. 01How to use it

Pick a version and a count. The list appears at once. v5 also needs a namespace and a name.

Press a row to copy that id. Copy all joins them with line breaks.

  2. 02What you get

Several v4 values come out as lowercase groups of 8-4-4-4-12.

NIL is the single value 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000.

    Enteredwww.example.com

    v5 DNS 2ed6657d-e927-568b-95e1-2665a8aea6a2
    NIL 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
  3. 03Worth knowing

A v4 uses 122 random bits. Ordinary test data does not collide.

A v1 mixes the time with a device-side random node, so the order of creation is roughly visible.

Questions

QWhich version should I use?
AMost ids are v4. Use v5 when the same name must keep the same value, and NIL for an empty slot.
QCan I make more than 200?
AOne pass stops at 200. Press make again for another set.
QDoes the name leave this device?
ANo. A v5 name is hashed in this browser and is not uploaded.

How this page works it out

Version 4 is random, version 1 uses the time, and version 5 is built from a DNS, URL, OID, or X.500 name. Nil is all zeros.

Make up to 200 at once. Version 5 and nil have no count field. The same name and namespace always give the same version 5.

A file you choose, text you type, and a picture you make stay in this browser. They are not uploaded to Kitharu, and the result stays on this device.
